MULTILINGUAL COLLECTIONS

Do you wish to borrow books in other languages than Norwegian or read books to your children in your mother tongue?

These web pages are made especially for immigrants and refugees and users of languages other than Norwegian.

Bergen Public Library offers books and other material in about 30 languages shown in the list at the right. The collections are mainly placed in the Main library. Small depots are placed in the local branches in several parts of the city.

On these web pages you may have a look at the books and other material the library offers in various languages. In addition you will find what material the library contains about and from some of the countries where the languages are spoken.

If Bergen Public Library does not have the books you need, we may borrow books from The Multilingual Library in Oslo, which is also responsible for

- public information in the languages of ethnic minorities.

Newspapers and magazines

The library offers newspapers and magazines in many languages. Papers that the library is not able to keep, you may in many cases read on the web.

Language training

Language courses containing cassettes, CDs, videos, CD-rom and books, are popular. The library offers Norwegian courses and courses in other languages.

Do you wish to read easy readers for practicing Norwegian? A small collection is located in the main central library in the adult department. Most of the books and the definitions of the levels are described in Bazar's LesNorsk database. Quite a few of the books are children's books, but they are selected because they may also be useful for adults who want to learn Norwegian.

The library also offers Norwegian grammar and textbooks - or maybe you would rather use a book of proverbs to see how they are used in Norwegian?
