Lending rights extend to everyone resident in the country.

Borrowers are obliged to:

• handle the material with care
• hand material in on time
• make good damage to, or loss of any material
• to follow the library rules
  
  The library is not responsible for any damage to CD-players etc. caused by the library`s material.
  

Library cards

• Valid proof of identity is required to obtain a library card.
• Primary school children must also have a parents signature on the application form.
• The library card must be presented when borrowing.
• The library card is a personal document.
• The library must be notified of change of adress.
• Loss of a library card,e.g. by theft, must be reported to the library without delay.
• There is a charge for replacing lost cards.
• If a person forgets to bring the library card it is still possible to lend books by showing a valid proof of identity. Borrowers over 16 years of age will have to pay kr 10,-.
• Institutions and organisations can obtain a library card by following certain rules. Send an email to utlaan@bergen.folkebibl.no for more information.
  

Borrowing period

Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks. (The period is shorter for material such as videos and CDs.)

Renewing loans

Loans may be renewed only twice, provided that nobody else has reserved the material. Loans of films cannot be renewed.

Rates by late delivery

Unmet demands will be forwarded to the City Treasurer.
